Protege Gala and Result Show - Under Pressure

The Show was Split into two parts: Gala Night and The Result Show

GALA NIGHT:
The Protégé chose their piece from the list of the requested songs on the Facebook poll.

Here’s how I Rank Their Performance:
10. Rosalyn Navarro Listen
This was very old-fashioned and in some point of her performance I feel like she is copying Charice. C

9. Kenneth MonicoGrenade
It was cheesy. HAHA. It was okay and I think Kenneth is playing safe with his performance. B-

8. Lovely EmbuscadoTotal Eclipse of the Heart
The performance was okay. I hear some mispronounce lyrics there; she really needs to improve her diction. B-

7. So Wat My Immortal
The only group in the competition continues their improvement; this is better than last week performance. B

6. Jensen TeñosoFootprints in the Sand
I really like how she performs this song vocally, but I think she needs to connect more. B+

5. Denise Barbacena Man Down
Denise show what she got and I’m happy that she chose a Rihanna track that really fit her, a good performance indeed. B+

4. Krizza  NerriSuperbass
Krizza is a performer. She can dance, sing and connect with the audience. That was really great but I think with this performance she needs back-up dancers. B+

3. Lirah BermudezPricetag
She sings this track effortlessly. The dancing part was a bit awkward but at the end of the day this is a singing competition and Lirah can sing. A-

2. Samantha Felizco Someone Like You
She really did an amazing job singing this track. Samantha changed a little bit of the arrangement which was good. But I think the arrangement was too slow. A-

1. Nomer Limatog Jr.You Give Love A Bad Name
He is really a showstopper. I love the song choice (that made me sing) and the energy that he gave to his performance. A-

MY BOTTOM THREE:
* ROSALYN
*KENNETH
* LOVELY

The Gala Night was IMPROVED from Last Week, the Lights, the Audio and the Stage is great. The Performances are mind blowing and you can see that contestant wants to win this. KUDOS to the Protégé Staff!

RESULT:

The Mentors with their Protégé sang Under Pressure/Ice Ice Baby.

The Top 10 was divided into two groups.

GROUP 1 – Lirah, Jensen, Nomer, Krizza and Rosalyn
GROUP 2 – Samantha, Kenneth, So Wat, Denise and Lovely

JENSEN is SAFE
LIRAH is SAFE
NOMER is SAFE
KRIZZA and ROSALYN in the Bottom Group

SAMANTHA is SAFE
SO WAT is SAFE
LOVELY is SAFE
KENNETH and DENISE complete the Bottom Group.

BOTTOM GROUP RESULTS:
DENISE is SAFE
KENNETH is SAFE
KRIZZA is SAFE
ROSALYN along with her mentor Imelda Papin is ELIMINATED from the competition.

The result show was not entertaining compare to the GALA NIGHT. They should furnish the opening number, more excitement during the elimination. I was surprised about Lovely leading the votes.
Overall, I was contended with the results, happy with the eliminated contender.

Protégé - Gala Night - Every Time You Lie

Here's how I rank their performances from the first Live Gala :
TEAM REY
10. So WatI’m With You

I don’t get why the judges love this performance. Their voices did not blend as a group, and there are so many flaws there. But this is better than the last week performance. C

TEAM JAYA
9. Lovely EmbuscadoOut Here Own My Own

The vocals were good, the  problem in this performance is her diction, also the way she sang this particular song, is same as the arrangement of Thia Megia in American Idol which is way better than Lovely showed. C
TEAM CLAIRE
8. Jensen TeñosoI Believe

I felt that the song is too hard for her because of some high notes that she didn’t hit, but overall that was an okay performance. C+

TEAM JAY-R
7. Kenneth MonicoThe Distance
Okay Performance. It was shaky and a lot of hits and misses of notes throughout the performance. B-

TEAM IMELDA
6. Rosalyn Navarro - No Matter What Happens
There are minimal flaws in this performance but this is a little forgivable because she is sick (according to her mentor). B

TEAM GLOC 9
5. Denise Barbacena - Skyscraper
Good Performance but a little forgettable.

TEAM JANNO
4. Lirah BermudezThe Climb

I love the tone of her voice, very unique and the performance was good, but I think the song did not fit her.  B

TEAM RACHELLE
3. Nomer Limatog Jr.Rolling In The Deep

Nomer did a great job performing this Adele hit. I had fun watching him. B+

TEAM JOEY
2. Samantha Felizco - Every Time You Lie

This girl tends to be unique and showed that she is having fun during her performance. The vocals were good but it lacks audience connection. B+

TEAM AIZA
1. Krizza Neri - Get Here
Great performance and I love the soulful arrangement, as of now she is the frontrunner of this competition.  A-

The gala night has a lot of misses.

NOT GOOD :
I don't like the lightning because it was too colorful and it hurts my eyes when the color tends to blend.
The Mentor Opening Performance was meh because of the Poor Audio Quality, the stage look so small on the Television ( the staff should work on that), and the Judges should give their opinion in all the contenders after each performance.

OK! :
The Hosting was okay but it needs a more diverse script.

GOOD :
The OBB is promsing it looks great on HD. The Live Band was also good.

I think mentors should handle everything about their Protege, the performance (the lightning that will used, the background, if they hire dancers, etc.), the wardrobe (they should hire a stylist for their Protege), etc.

Overall the show is BETTER than Pinoy Idol (franchise of American Idol), but the audience or the viewers deserves MORE.
Looking Forward for the next gala night hoping that this show will improve, I love this show that's why I'm concern. I love the THEME next week.

Lauren Alaina's Wildflower

American Idol Season Ten Runner-Up Lauren Alaina releases her debut album "Wildflower".
WILDFLOWER Cover Art
The album is composed of 12 tracks and I can say that all of these songs have lot of potential to be a single. Lauren define herself as a country artist at 16 years old she is really good vocally. The songs in the album give me chills like what I felt when listening to Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts". Almost all the songs were very catchy (this is coming from a non-county fan), my favorites are Georgia Peaches, Growing Her Wings, Tupelo, The Locket and Dirt Road Prayer.

TRACKLIST :
01. Georgia Peaches (Blair Daly/Mallary Hope/Rachel Proctor)
02. Growing Her Wings (Nicolle Galyon/Nicole Witt)
03. Tupelo (Hillary Lindsey/Steve McEwan/Gordie Sampson)
04. The Middle (Zac Maloy/Rachel Proctor/David Hodges)
05. Like My Mother Does (Nathan Chapman/Liz Rose/Nikki Williams)
06. She’s A Wildflower (Hillary Lindsey/Steve McEwan/Gordie Sampson)
07. I’m Not One Of Them (Tony Martin/Tom Shapiro/Sarah Johns)
08. The Locket (Mallary Hope)
09. Eighteen Inches (Ashley Gorley/Kelley Lovelace/Carrie Underwood)
10. One Of Those Boys (Marla Cannon/Benjamin Caver/Anthony Smith)
11. Funny Thing About Love (Lauren Alaina/Brett James/Luke Laird)
12. Dirt Road Prayer (April Cushman/Nicolle Galyon)

Overall, this is a great debut album for an American Idol Alumni. I hope Lauren will hit the country chart soon and please release Dirt Road Prayer as a single.

Here's the video of Lauren performing Georgia Peaches at Good Morning America.

Rating : 4/5

Protégé - Final Face Off

Seven Finalist have been chosen and only three spots remain to complete the Final 10 Contenders who will perform at the LIVE GALA NIGHT.
This week the final set of Proteges for Mentor Rey, Joey and Gloc 9 battle it out to make sure they will earn a spot to be the first ever Protégé.

Performance Ranking :

TEAM REY - C-Pilyo
9. C-Pilyo - I'll Be There
I don’t like the arrangement and how they performed the song. In short it was forgettable.

TEAM REY - I.S.A.W
8. I.S.A.W - Hey Jude
The first half of the song was cool. The blending of the group sucks, the girl obviously ruined the performance. The whole rap part was a mess. Sorry.

TEAM REY - So Wat?
7. So Wat - Ain't No Mountain Enough
The performance was good compare to the other groups of Mr. Rey Valera.

TEAM JOEY - Wilson
6. Wilson Peñaflor - Original Song?
I applaud him for singing an original composition. His performance was pretty good.

TEAM GLOC9 - Derf
5. Derf Cabral - All in Love is Fair
The whole performance bore me. The song doesn’t fit him and I'm expecting lot from Derf. Well, I’m glad Derf found his father.

TEAM GLOC9 - Denise
4. Denise Barbacena - Ang Pag-Ibig Ko'y Mapansin
The performance was good, generic and old fashioned. But her voice was so cool to my ears and she is cute too.

TEAM JOEY - Aubrey
3. Aubrey -
The performance was flawless and you can tell that she is very careful with the notes. Good Job!

TEAM GLOC9 - Kristina
2. Kristina Laguitan - Dangerously In Love
She might not be appealing (for some) but she can really sing. The vocals are insane. I just loved the whole performance.

TEAM JOEY - Samantha

      1. Samantha Felizco - Rolling In The Deep
Singing an Adele Track was a very risky move and obviously it was paid off for her. She maybe forgot the lyrics but Samantha stand still like nothing happen and sing her heart out. Very Good Rendition.

The Three Contenders that will complete to the Live Gala Night are :
Team Rey - So What
Team Gloc 9- Denise Barbacena
Team Joey - Samantha Felizco

I'm sad for Aubrey and Kristina not making it.

I'm excited for the Live Gala Night this Sunday (October 16, 2011) at SM Mall Of Asia Centerstage. I'm hoping for a one of a kind show later.

Protégé Face Off - Part 2

Here's how I rank Last Week Performance :

TEAM AIZA - Mark

12. Mark Gregory - Ordinary People
He was all over the place throughout the performance, I don't know if he was nervous or the song itself does not fit him. Enough Said!

TEAM IMELDA - Jobert
11. Jobert Nosidal - May Bukas Pa
The song choice was pretty interesting, well the boy can sing but the arrangement was just awful. That notes was too high to deliver.

TEAM CLAIRE - M.O.S.T.
10. Men Of Soul and Talent - When You Believe
They sounds good individually but as a group that's a different story.

TEAM AIZA - Zibrille
9. Zibrille - Decode
She was really nervous during the performance but she pulled it out at the end of the song. Good job.

TEAM IMELDA - VIP
8. VIP Singers - Habang May Buhay
They show a decent job performing a classic hit. The girl though own this performance.

TEAM IMELDA - Rosalyn
7. Rosalyn Navarro - I Will Always Love You
Her voice was powerful though I think the performance was too old-fashioned. And this Dolly &Whitney hit was sang over a thousand times in different singing competition here in the Philippines.

TEAM JAYA - Archimedes
6. Archimedes Uduando -
The song fit him but with that voice I will choose another track that will showcase my range (I will take some risk). And he was sick during this performance and he deliver it beyond good.

TEAM CLAIRE - Jensen
5. Jensen - Stand Up For Love
She is CUTE. I mean she is great but there are some parts in the song that were off-key.

TEAM JAYA -  Joshua
4. Joshua Fresco - Grenade
Bruno Mars track (YAY!). I'm amazed how this little boy deliver this song, the diction was great and his voice gives a little new flavor. But, I kinda agree with the judges that his performance was stiff.

TEAM CLAIRE - Via
3. Via - Ikaw Ang Aking Pangarap
I love how she performed this song, she was amazing, and her voice was relaxing.

TEAM JAYA - Lovely
2. Lovely Embuscado - Hurt
The performance was pretty solid, I'm amazed on her diction, the voice and the NEW LOOK! I was surprise that she is only 12 years old.

TEAM AIZA - Krizza
1. Krizza Nerri - No One
This is my favorite performance. I love how she chose a song that will fit her voice, style and age. She was very soulful, she is likeable and the rap part was good.

Only Four (4) finalist advanced to the live gala night.

TEAM Imelda - Rosalyn Navarro
TEAM Claire - Jensen
TEAM Jaya - Lovely Embuscado
TEAM Aiza - Krizza Nerri

Westlife Concert Experience

It was a last minute decision that i will watch Westlife Concert at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum last Thursday. And because it was a last minute decision i forgot my camera (BOO!). I have no major reason  not to watch this concert (although i don't have the enough funds because the date was one day before payday) cause
Westlife was a big part of my childhood and their songs are my favorite karaoke track so I'm very excited and looking forward to see how they perform.

I fall in line at the booth and ask a Gen-Ad ticket (Yes, I'm Alone and that's the only ticket that i can afford) and got to my seat. I was surprise of how many people went to Araneta just to see them, the Lower Box and Gen-Ad section was SRO (Standing Room Only),  and it was estimated that the crowd reached 11,000+ (WOW).

It was about 9pm when the REAL show started, they opened with "When You're Looking Like That", which i forgot the title, followed by their hits such as My Love, Flying Without Wings and Word of Our Own, they did some of their covers (Uptown Girl, Word Of Our Own) and the Pop Medley which I really enjoy (lol). Shane is my favorite vocalist, Mark was insanely good singer while Kian and Bryan has the loudest cheers.

Here is the Setlist :

  • Intro
  • When You're Looking Like That
  • World Of Our Own
  • What Makes A Man
  • Safe
  • Home
  • My Love
  • Beautiful Tonight
MEDLEY:
  • Viva La Vida(Coldplay cover)
  • Only Girl(in the World)(Rihanna cover)
  • The Time(Dirty Bit)(Black Eyed Peas cover)
  • Bad Romance(Lady Gaga cover)
  • Seasons In The Sun
  • You Raise Me Up
  • I'm Already There
  • I Will Reach You
  • Flying Without Wings

ENCORE:
  • What About Now
  • Uptown Girl

Overall I ENJOYED this concert, it bring backs a lot of memories from my childhood especially when they sang "My Love" because this song was my audition piece when I joined the choir in sixth grade, that moment was so huge, i feel GOOSEBUMPS all over my big body when they are singing that track. I also see mothers with their children that when Westlife will sing one of their hits, the reactions on their faces was PRICELESS, i feel that every single person that watch the concert go home with a huge smile.

It was an amazing experience to see them perform live, but I fell short with the tracks that they sing, I think they should add I Lay My Love On You, If I Let You Go, Swear It Again, Evergreen and Fool Again to make the concert more memorable. Oh well, the concert is done and until now I have a hangover, I just downloaded the album Unbreakable : The Greatest Hits Vol 1 (haha). Thank You Shane, Mark, Kian and Nicky, Hope to see you SOON!!

Here's my favorite performance :
